Sony drops PlayStation TV price to £45 in the UK

It’s a huge price cut, and one that likely reflects the console’s muted reception. Would we recommend one now? Maybe, given the gizmo also comes with a voucher for three PlayStation Vita games. Arguably its best feature is Remote Play, but ?84.99 is a tough sell if you just want to stream PS4 games around the house. The mini-console has been available in the UK for a little over three months, but already Sony is dropping the price to ?44.99.

Source: PlayStation TV. Until triple-A titles such as Tearaway, Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Gravity Rush are supported though, you’re probably better off saving your pennies.

Don’t count on Black Friday for the best holiday deals

That holds true for toys, which Cook said hit their lowest prices in mid-December. 21, and will match some holiday sales offers from competitors at the same time, the company said on Wednesday.

Some products might drop in price as Christmas approaches, with retailers eager to pull more shoppers into their stores. With more purchasing shifting to online retailers such as Amazon (AMZN), it’s forcing brick-and-mortar retailers such as Walmart (WMT) to extend their “Black Friday” sales across the entire week of Thanksgiving. Shoppers looking for a pair of Beats Solo Drenched HD On-Ear Headphones are advised to buy from RadioShack starting at 8 a.m. That’s the highest percentage recorded since the group began tracking that topic.

Online shopping may be even more popular this year, thanks to the bad reputation that Black Friday events have earned. All Rights Reserved.

Consumers who want to track when the lowest holiday prices will be available can check sitessuch as, which keeps tabs on retailers and their Black Friday deals. Consumers are also more likely to come across out-of-stock messages when they shop on Cyber Monday, most likely because a wave of early shoppers have already hit the sites and snapped up inventory.. The group’s data analytics represents $7 out of every $10 spent online, she noted.

“What we find is the lowest overall price discount is on Thanksgiving Day, at about 24 percent,” Gaffney said. Only 28 percent of shoppers surveyed in a study plan to actually shop in a store on Black Friday.

This holiday season may end up providing better deals for consumers than in some past years, given that Thanksgiving falls on Nov. on Thanksgiving, according to an analysis from that site.

The average shopper will do 44 percent of their holiday shopping online this year, according to the National Retail Federation. “A lot of retailers are offering sales and actually pretty good sales on Thanksgiving day.”

That rule of thumb doesn’t necessarily hold true, especially for holiday shoppers this year. Some American consumers may be put off by scenes of rowdy crowds trying to grab items off shelves. 27 this year, which is relatively late. It used to be that Black Friday — the day after Thanksgiving — was a solid bet for finding the best deals on holiday gifts.

“It’s the greying of Black Friday,” Fowler noted. That’s shortening the traditional holiday buying season for retailers, which may give them an incentive to offer deeper discounts, with many of those appearing before Black Friday, said Deborah Fowler, associate professor at Texas Tech University, who studies retail management.

For online shoppers, Thanksgiving Day itself takes home the pumpkin pie when it comes to finding bargains, according to Tamara Gaffney, principal analyst at Adobe Digital Index. Other retailers are offering bargains on Thanksgiving itself.

While Black Friday may offer incredible deals, the truth is that “the odds of scoring one without camping out at the store are pretty low,” noted Kristin Cook, managing editor at, in an email.

So what’s the best strategy for getting the lowest prices? Shop online first, checking out prices on Thanksgiving, and then go to stores to search out bargains, Gaffney noted.

© 2014 CBS Interactive Inc.. “That was a surprise to use. We thought it would be Black Friday.”

“Cyber Monday is one of the worst days to go shopping online,” Gaffney said.

Walmart, for instance, will start offering Black Friday prices on Nov. For instance, some Lego sets might be 40 percent off on Black Friday, but shoppers might be able to find sets at 50 percent off in December, she noted.

In Kentucky Derby, Race Against Weight Takes Jockeys To A Dark Side

have half that.

Trainers as respected as D. Tell [jockeys] to get one. “It works on your nervous system. Some jockeys lose as much as 10 pounds in a day.

Other sports where weight and fitness are issues maintain a minimum of 5 percent body fat for their athletes. When, toward the end of his riding career, Shane Sellers participated in a 2004 HBO documentary on the subject of jockey health called “Jockey,” he became something of a racetrack pariah.

Saturday’s Kentucky Derby marks the 140th anniversary of the famous horse race held in Louisville, Kent., but only the 10th since the so-called “heaving” or “flipping” bowl was removed from the jockeys’ room at Churchill Downs.

“The bulimia is as bad as being a cocaine addict,” he told the Cincinnati Enquirer ten years ago. Not to mention slow overall times.

The former jockey, Randy Romero, 57, has had kidney problems for more than a decade and now receives dialysis treatments. Many top jockeys in the U.S. “Then they get weak and go out in the afternoon and race 6 to 8 times.”

Of course, that may not make a tremendous difference.. In the last decade or so, some racetracks have gone to the effort of removing them, and new tracks generally don’t install them.

“People don’t realize how much these guys sacrifice for their sport,” Haire said.

Former professional jockey Darrell Haire told Fox News Latino, “Whether it’s a toilet or a heaving bowl, it’s still there.”

Often the bowls stand higher than a regular toilet does, to reduce the amount of kneeling jockeys have to do. If they’re too big to make weight, they should do something else.”

“These guys today are so fit — their legs and body have to be so strong,” Haire said. Frequent vomiting can result in tooth decay, hair loss, gastrointestinal damage and, in extreme cases, kidney failure.

But few active jockeys are willing to talk about the subject. “There isn’t enough funding, and even less for outreach in Spanish,” he said.

Jeff Johnston, a retired jockey and current manager for the Jockeys Guild, the riders’ welfare association, recently described the flipping bowl as “a square porcelain bowl with a hole to flush down the vomit. “Even a couple of pounds would make a world of difference.”

Groups like the Jockeys Guild and the Winners Foundation are trying to get the minimum weight at racetracks increased by two pounds.

And about 30 percent vomited to shed pounds.

There are organizations that offer support for jockeys, but, Haire said, “Not as much as there should be.” The Winners Foundation offers help with alcohol and drug abuse. Less than that becomes a health risk. That discrepancy has led to some pretty drastic attempts to “pull,” or lose, weight.

A 1995 study by the Chicago Rehabilitation Institute showed that 69 percent of all riders skipped meals, two-thirds used a “hotbox” sauna, one-third used diuretics to lose water weight and 14 percent took laxatives. It works on your mind.”

Since weight guidelines for jockeys were first drawn up in the mid-nineteenth century, the average North American has increased in size by 25 to 30 percent compared to 6 percent for jockeys. Wayne Lukas have been quoted as saying things as insensitive as “Modern diets are great. “I see it all the time. He has thrown up, sometimes as much as five or six times a day, since he was a 9-year-old jockey in his native Louisiana.

It may not be as imposing as the famous “blue wall of silence” maintained by police officers, but jockeys have a topic that they don’t like to talk about either: making weight.

Haire also pointed out that Latin jockeys – a large segment of the talent pool – are at a particular disadvantage because of the language barrier. And researchers at the University of Delaware have partnered with local jockey welfare and thoroughbred racing organizations to provide nutritional guidelines specifically for jockeys.

“It’s dangerous,” Haire told FNL. Drug and diet pill abuse is rampant, according to many insiders.

Weight requirements vary from race to race and track to track, but generally horses carry between 112 and 126 pounds, which includes jockey and about 7 pounds worth of gear. They’re usually in their own cubicle at the end of a line of toilets.”

Bill Vourvoulias (@bvourvoulias) is an editor at Fox News Latino.

People who starve themselves for long periods of time can wind up suffering from osteoporosis, nerve damage and heart arrhythmia. So many cautionary tales.”

Most of the opposition to raising the allowable weight for jockeys comes from horse trainers, who fear that added weight will harm the horses

Police: Woman Who Was Reportedly Abducted Found Safe

He and his ex-wife had gone to Vallejo, northeast of San Francisco, as authorities searched for their daughter, 29.

She seemed calm and was not crying but provided very few details about her ordeal, Huskins said. It’s unclear why Quinn took so long to alert authorities.

Police wouldn’t reveal details about the case and said the boyfriend was not a person of interest.

Mike Huskins says he doesn’t know anything about a ransom but has no doubt she was kidnapped. He hasn’t been able to get any more information because she is still speaking with police.

An emotional Mike Huskins told The Associated Press that she found no one home, so she walked 12 blocks to his house, where a neighbor met her and called 911. Father: Woman Reported Kidnapped Dropped off at Mom’s Home – ABC News

A woman whose boyfriend reported that intruders abducted her from their San Francisco Bay Area home and held her for ransom was found safe Wednesday at a relative’s Southern California home, police said.

Denise Huskins’ father, Mike Huskins, said his daughter called him around 9:30 a.m. She just said, “Daddy, I’m OK,” he said.

Huskins’ boyfriend told police she was abducted Monday from the Mare Island home they share in Vallejo, about 400 miles north of Huntington Beach.

Aaron Quinn, 30, called police at about 2 p.m. that day to report Huskins was forcefully taken in the middle of the night and the intruders demanded a ransom. He said he is not headed back to Huntington Beach because Vallejo police still want to speak with him.

A car registered to Quinn was taken from the couple’s home and found at an undisclosed location, police said.

Huskins works as a physical therapist at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo. She moved to Vallejo in June from Southern California.

Allow Betting On Professional Sports Games

sports fans and many states support. to respond to its immense global popularity.

. Thus, an estimated $400 billion is wagered on sports each year without oversight to ensure fairness.

These requirements would include: mandatory monitoring and reporting of unusual betting-line movements; a licensing protocol to ensure betting operators are legitimate; minimum-age verification measures; geo-blocking technology to ensure betting is available only where it is legal; mechanisms to identify and exclude people with gambling problems; and education about responsible gaming.

SB Nation reported in September that Silver feels the legalization of sports betting is “inevitable,” .

Silver said that any move to legalize betting on sports must be done with care and should not compromise the integrity of sports.

Silver argued that it is time for U.S. Major professional sports leagues endorsed the move. As a result, sports betting has moved to illicit exchanges and shady websites, Silver said.

“I oppose any course of action that would compromise these objectives,” Silver wrote. Silver said sports betting would be an extension of a trend that U.S. Many states already have other forms of betting (e.g., lotteries, casinos) and several have legalized Internet gambling. states, “should be brought out of the underground and into the sunlight where it can be appropriately monitored and regulated.” He called on Congress to enact laws to help with oversight and technological safeguards.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver argued for the legalization of betting on professional sports games in a New York Times op-ed published Thursday night, writing, “Congress should adopt a federal framework that allows states to authorize betting on professional sports.”

Silver outlined his proposal for how legalized sports betting could be regulated:

In 1992, Congress passed the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, or PASPA, which prohibited states from permitting betting on sports. For example, New Jersey passed a law authorizing sports betting earlier this year that was later blocked by a federal court. Silver also pointed to other nations that have legalized sports betting, calling on the U.S. “I believe that sports betting should be brought out of the underground and into the sunlight where it can be appropriately monitored and regulated.”

Silver wrote that sports betting, currently illegal in all but a few U.S. to wake up to the reality that sports betting is here, it is popular and it needs regulation. Other states already exempt from PASPA include Nevada, Delaware, Montana and Oregon

They claimed that the law violates the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, a 1992 federal ban on state-sponsored sports betting.

The new law allows sports betting at state-licensed casinos and racetracks. But given earlier decisions by federal courts, it was critical that we follow a correct and appropriate path to curtail new court challenges and expensive litigation.

The federal court sided with the leagues, so the state appealed. Supreme Court refused to hear the case, leaving the lower court ban in place.

In calling for the injunction, the NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball and the NCAA are seeking to block enforcement of a law that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed on Friday, which partially repeals a ban on sports wagering in the state.

Bookies Betting Pope Francis Will Win This Year’s Nobel Peace Prize

He is the country’s Prime Minister.

The Argentinian pope is currently the 5-2 favorite to win the award, which will be announced by the Nobel Institute in Oslo, Norway, on Friday (Oct. Irish bookmaker Paddy Power also considers him a leading contender.

“When the odds get shorter, that’s when you sit up and pay attention,” said Jon Ivan-Duke, spokesman for William Hill. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.

When the brutal attack provoked an international outcry, Islamic clerics in Pakistan issued a fatwa against her attackers, but the Taliban reaffirmed its intent to kill Yousafzai as she recovered in the U.K.

VATICAN CITY (RNS) Pope Francis is tipped to win this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, according to some of the world’s leading bookmakers.

The pontiff’s odds have fallen from 11-4 in a sign of his worldwide popularity.

. “Maybe there’s some divine inspiration at work.”

Now a human rights activist, Yousafzai has seen her odds halved from 20-1 to 10-1 but the pope is still ahead of her.

In June, he hosted a high-level prayer summit between Israeli President Shimon Peres and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and pressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to scale back attacks during this summer’s bloody conflict in Gaza.

Nevertheless, Francis is facing stiff competition from National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden and U.N.

Since he was elected in March 2013, the Jesuit pontiff has called for peace in areas of conflict including Iraq, Syria and Ukraine.

“Snowden has created as many fans as critics and would be a rather controversial choice,” said Ivan-Duke.

“The betting suggests Pope Francis is in pole position to win the Nobel Peace Prize — he’s the hot ticket,” said Ivan-Duke. 10), according to British bookmaker William Hill. “However, there’s a late gamble on last year’s favorite, Yousafzai, and she could be a real challenger to the Holy Father.”

But the pope is also facing a late challenge from Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani who survived a near-fatal shooting by the Taliban on her way to school in 2012.

The 77-year-old was also outspoken on his visit to the Middle East this year calling for an end to the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians and praying beside the controversial concrete wall that separates Jerusalem from Bethlehem.

Correction: An earlier version of this wire story listed Benjamin Netanyahu as Israel’s President
